About The Event

This conversation explores the women who have shaped Uganda’s political history, their contributions to nation-building and social movements, and their influence on contemporary politics. It asks whether women continue to be movers and shakers of Ugandan politics and what challenges and opportunities remain for transformative leadership.


Jasmine Acayo is a U.S.-born Ugandan researcher and social impact professional. Trained in the critical social sciences and literary studies, Acayo examines interscalar power relations and their influence on narrative systems shaping our ways of knowing, caring for, and communing with our social, built, and non-human environments. Her research employs political ecology and critical feminist tools, and is guided by a commitment to leveraging Diasporic liminalities in support of grounded culture work that promote the living knowledges, landscapes, and lifeways of northern Uganda. She holds an MPhil in African Studies from the University of Cambridge and a BA in English from George Mason University. …
