About The Event
Mukoma Wa Ngugi is a Professor in the Department of Literatures in English at Cornell University and the author of Unbury Our Dead With Song (a novel about competing Tizita musicians), The Rise of the African Novel: Politics of Language, Identity and Ownership, and the novels Mrs. Shaw, Black Star Nairobi, and Nairobi Heat. He is also the author of two books of poetry, Logotherapy and Hurling Words at Consciousness.
He is the co-founder of the Safal-Cornell Kiswahili Prize for African Literature and a founding member of the Global Blackness Initiative. He currently has two books under review: It Gets Loud Up in Here (poetry) and Somewhere Between Black and African: A Biography of My Skin (essays).
Some of his works have been translated into German, Turkish, and French. In 2013, he was named one of the 100 Most Influential Africans. In 2015, he served as a juror for the Writivism Short Story Prize…
