About The Event
CHOCOLATE: a motion poetry homage to Black D.C. is a cinematic love letter. It is a portrait of a city and culture at risk of erasure. Combining motion portraits with original poetry, still photography, and dance, CHOCOLATE operates as both a time capsule and a testimony from Black D.C. as gentrification reshapes both it's landscape and memory.
Eliamani Ismail is a writer and filmmaker from Washington D.C. She holds a BA in Africana Studies from Scripps College and a MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Maryland. Her writing has been published in various literary magazines and supported by fellowships from the Aspen Institute, Kimbilio for Black Fiction, Brooklyn Poets, and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
