About The Event
Raw, Black and Blue is a photo-fiction love story told through the lens and journals of Tamia, a photographer navigating her relationships and mental health when she returns to her childhood home.
Raw, Black & Blue is a photo-fiction book and film project that blends documentary photography with a fictional love story. It follows Tamia, a photographer returning to her childhood neighborhood in San Francisco after a nervous breakdown. She documents the work of Keith, a local community social worker and her former crush. The story unfolds through Tamia’s photographs and journal entries, mapping her journey toward healing while reflecting the interconnected lives of neighbors, elders like Mister Simms, and absent figures such as her father. This work embodies my larger practice by using personal narrative as a lens to explore collective experience, honoring the complexity of inner life against the backdrop of shifting cultural and geographic landscapes.
