About The Event

Join Lower Georgia Avenue Main Street and District Bridges for the first ever Lower Georgia Avenue Art All Night! We are so excited to bring this beloved event to the neighborhood.

This years’ theme, “Collage Avenue,” aims to highlight how just like a beautiful collage, Lower Georgia Avenue is made up of many different and unique cultures and ideas that come together to form a masterpiece. “It’s up to you to determine what this means to you; the freedom of collage.”

Film Screening!

BRICK BY BRICK

Brick by Brick documents a late-’70s Washington, D.C., ignored by the media, from which poor Black residents are being pushed out. Images of monuments contrast with prescient images of gentrification and homelessness. An alternative is provided by the Seaton Street project, in which tenants united to purchase buildings. Participants discuss their effort as part of a worldwide struggle against displacement.

RESIDUE

Written and directed by Merawi Gerima, RESIDUE follows aspiring filmmaker Jay (Obinna Nwachukwu) returning to his childhood Washington, DC, neighborhood that has been gentrified beyond recognition. Dealing with alienation from his friends, troubled by the disappearance of his best friend, and unsure of his place in this new community, Jay confronts issues of identity, gentrification and loss.
