The Practice of Seeing Film w/ Janaina Olivera

Janaina Olivera is a film programmer and historian based in Brazil. Olivera is a professor at the Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro whose work focuses on the curation, criticism, and analysis of Black film across the diaspora. Janaina has programmed films for many established organizations such as Flaherty and FESPACO film festivals.

Join us for a five week program where we will discuss community-centered archival practices with those who are working to preserve Black audio-visual culture and cinematic traditions. Each week will feature a filmmaker, archivists, historian, or curator who directly addresses cultural preservation.

Every Monday from July 6 to August 3 at 6:00pm to 7:30pm we will gather in the bookstore of Sankofa to discuss, learn, and empower each other to support the archival fellowship hosted annually by Positive Productions Inc. We cannot wait to see you there!
