Styron's attack on Nat Turner was horrible. It was uncalled for and it was warped. Some of the greatest writers of that time got together to respond to Styron's vicious attacks. His book became so popular that not only was it a NY Times best selling book but it was also commissioned to produce a movie based on it and it won a pulitizer prize. The writers straightened Styron out but it would be years before the damage that he did to the character of a man who sacrificed his life to save others would be corrected. A correction has come and the proper movie will be done showing Nat Turner as the hero that he was.
