  • This design represents heroic figures in the Maroon communities of Jamaica, Brazil and Haiti. The word Maroon likely derived from the Spanish word “cimarron” which means wild, untamed and was used to describe runaway enslaved Africans stolen from their homeland and brought to the Americas to toil in the plantations. Third World Famous celebrates the maroons for their bravery, their cunning and their ability to bring the powerful European powers to the table to negotiate.
