Finally, the inestimable attainments of Dr. Andrew Billingsley are applauded in this long overdue Festshrift by those who were schooled and influenced by him.  
Billingsley is considered the seminal scholar on the sociology of the Black family, his Black Families in White America remains a classic and a standard reference.  He has also attained groundbreaking achievements in other arenas.  Serving as a university president (Morgan State University), university administrator (Berkeley, Howard University and The University of Maryland), Billingsley has received acclaim and a host of awards from professional and academic organizations.
